JANE SMITH FREDRICK, 94, formerly of MIDDLETOWN
Asbury Park Press

JANE SMITH FREDRICK, 94, formerly of MIDDLETOWN, died suddenly Monday, May 5, at Mansfield Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation, Mansfield, Conn. Before moving to Mansfield in 2004, Jane made her home in Middletown for over 50 years. Jane was born in Scranton, Pa. Following graduation from high school, the family moved to New Jersey and Jane was employed by the Prudential Insurance Co., Newark, where she met her husband. After marriage, she devoted many years to raising her children and her volunteer work. She was a lifelong member of the Girl Scouts of America, and as a girl, was a charter member of one of the earliest troops in the U.S. She went on to become a troop leader and board member and at the time of her death, she was still a card-carrying member. After raising her children, Jane returned to work as a medical records librarian at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. An artistic and creative person, Jane turned her many talents to her gardens, her home, knitting, and her first love, creating beautifully sewn garments. Both her daughters were fortunate to wear one-of-a-kind, exquisite wedding gowns of her creation. Her granddaughters also were the recipients of her talent.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Charles N. Fredrick, in 1987; her mother and father, Idris and Margaret Smith; and her brothers, Seth and Idwal. Jane is survived by her daughter, Lynn Haney and her husband John of Storrs, Conn.; her daughter, Leah Singer and her husband Roger of Holly Springs, N.C.; and her son, Charles and his wife Michele of Tolland, Conn. She is also survived by her granddaughters, Bethany Stanley-Kirschenbaum and Erika Mackey; her grandsons, Timothy Stanley, Andrew Stanley, and Charles Fredrick III; and five great-grandchildren, Seth and Maya Kirschenbaum, Ethan and Tucker Stanley, and Gwenllyn Mackey. She also leaves her sister-in-law, Anne Smith; many nieces and nephews, devoted longtime friends and many new friends from Mansfield Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Thursday until the funeral services at 11 a.m. at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, 115 Tindall Road, Middletown. Burial will be at Holmdel Cemetery, Holmdel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Riverview Medical Center Foundation, 1 Riverview Plaza, Red Bank, NJ 07701. Letters of condolence may be e-mailed to Condolences@pflegerfuneralhome.com.
