PETER J. CAPESTRO SR., 65, of MATAWAN, died Tuesday, Nov. 30, at home. Mr. Capestro was a heavy equipment operator. He worked for many local independent contractors from 1966-1973 and was last employed with M.J. Paquet beginning in 1966. He was a member of Local 825, Union, the Keyport Yacht Club, the Hans Pedersen Breakfast Club, and St. Clement's Roman Catholic Church, Matawan. He served in Korea with the U.S. Army from 1963-65. He had an avid love of sailing. He was born in Brooklyn and lived in Port Monmouth before moving to Matawan 38 years ago.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Elise. Surviving are his wife, Carolyn; a son and daughter-in-law, Peter J. Jr. and Bridget Capestro of Matawan; a daughter, Lisa Capestro of Hoboken; a stepdaughter, Kelly Harper of Matawan; a brother, Robert of Palm Coast, Fla.; and two granddaughters, Katherine and Elizabeth.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 S. Holmdel Road, Holmdel. A funeral Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Clement's R.C. Church, Matawan.
